"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."

— Samuel Johnson

View across the Town Bridge and up St Mary’s Hill in Stamford, Lincolnshire, a town I have always felt is underappreciated. It’s like two parts Oxford to one part Cotswolds with a dash of Dickensian mixed in. This makes no sense, of course, as it is nowhere near either of those places- Lincolnshire lies north of East Anglia- but that is how it seems to me. (loose_grip_99 on flickr) enchantedengland:

The western end of the York Minster in the magical, medieval city of York, North Yorkshire. There is so much to do in York you wouldn’t believe it. Here is my must-do list for York, as detailed in my green spiral book of crazy carefully detailed Trip Planner: St Leonard’s Hospital, the ruins of a medieval facility; the Multangular Tower, a remnant of the first century Roman city of Eboracum; St Mary’s Abbey ruins; the Minster; the Treasurer’s House; Our Lady’s Row (oldest surviving buildings in the city, circa 1316, still in their original condition) the Castle Museum,  city walls, and Clifford’s Tower, part of York Castle. They are all within walking distance!!! I am annoyingly excited about York. (wikimedia) enchantedengland:

enchantedengland: A cunning view of the Radcliffe Camera, an eighteenth century English Palladian style edifice. Originally packed with scientific and general book collections, these collections were relocated elsewhere; and the Camera functions today as the main reading room of the Bodleian Library. It also contains the History Faculty Library and a few English books, according to my super secret inside sources. Tragically, the Camera is not open to the public. enchantedengland:

enchantedengland: The Bedruthan Steps and Park Head” is situated on the northern coast of Cornwall between Padstow and Newquay. A Site of Special Scientific Interest, it is noted for its slates and fossils and mosses and beetles. Moss and slate is very nice but I do not know about the beetles. I hate a bug. Eh look at that scenery. I will step on the beetle. Although I might get a fine, I do not know. enchantedengland:
